Geopolitics of South Caucasus and its security problems: the example of Nagorno Karabakh
South Caucasus has a key gepolitic position in Asia and this role has gained a new dimension after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Perhaps one of and the most important problems in the former Soviet geography is Nagorno-Karabakh issue. From late 1987, Armenia supported the seperative actions of armenians living in Azerbaijan's Nagorno-Karabakh Authonomous Republic, when the collapse of Soviets has started. The central government in the process of collapse came short and even followed the policy of supporting Armenia.
For understanding the problem of Nagorno Karabakh and its continuation through the various stages, geopolitical charchter of South Caucasus and the problem's negative effects to the security of region has already been researched, and also failure of the organizations is focused under, which were established by the in-region and outher states in South Caucasus after 1990s.
In the study increasing military spendings is taken under focus, especially reasons for the armament race by the states is mentioned as a parallel to the region's security problem.
